Saddle Mountain's On-Site Hiking Trails

Saddle Mountain has over five miles of hiking trails leading all the way to the very top of the mountain. There are incredible vistas all along the trail as you make your way up through our enchanted forest. The real reward is found 2.5 miles up the trail to the very tippy top of the mountain where you will find 360 degree views of the mountains of Big Sur, Carmel Valley and the Pacific Ocean.

Some of Our Favorite Hikes Around the Area

Point Lobos

Hike along the Pacific Ocean and keep your eyes on the lookout for seals and sea otters!  Discover “China Cove” where it is said to be where Robert Lewis Stevenson got his inspiration to write “Treasure Island”.  Point Lobos is 3 miles south on Highway 1. No dogs are allowed, not even in the car.

Garland Park

Located about 6 miles east on Carmel Valley Road, this park has a number of wonderful trails and sites to see, including the Carmel River. Some of the trails allow horses and bicycles. Dogs are allowed on leash.

Mission Trail Nature Reserve

The trail head is located on Rio Road, across from the Carmel Mission. This park encompasses 33 acres of mostly undeveloped land perfect for biking, dog walking, running, sitting, picnicking, bird watching and discovering native plants.

Jack's Peak

This park features 8.5 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. Views of the peninsula are breathtaking from the ridge. Tables are available if you care to have a picnic before or after your hike. Dogs are allowed on leash.
